Alpha Delta Chapter
Washington State
Highlights from 2023
In 2023 our chapter designated February as our Book Club Month. It is now known as Nancy’s Books, in memory of long-time member Nancy Ellingham, a lover of reading and at whose memorial service scores of books were given away. We were excited to present the poem “A Sea Is” (written by a third grader!) for the Inspirational Moment at the March King County Breakfast, held for the first time at the Inglewood Country Club. July saw us at the Bainbridge Island Museum of Arts for a tour followed by an outdoor lunch and shopping in Winslow prior to a pleasant return trip on the ferry. Other cultural experiences occurred at the Seattle Asian Art Museum in December viewing prints of historic Edo along with those of Toulouse-Lautrec, and at a talk about traveling up the Nile. As always, Julie Kempf from the League of Women Voters gave us an annual update on the state of elections in King County and Washington State, and what free and fair elections mean to a representative democracy. Finally, we sent contributions to charities supporting women’s shelters and medical care for homeless persons’ pets as our annual holiday giving.

Highlights from 2018-19
Alpha Delta Seattle 2018-19 year began with a presentation by the League of Women Voters that inspired lively discussion. We attended the musical, Fly Away Home—a hit! Service projects included: ten zipper-binders we filled with school supplies and donated to Meany Middle School in Seattle, along with clothing for their theater department; two “Snuggles” blankets and bras for Breast Intentions for State Projects; “adoption” of the Denny Dual Language Program at Denny Middle School in Seattle for on-going support.

Highlights from 2017-18
Our Alpha Delta 2017-18 year got off to a strong start with a timely presentation by the League of Women Voters that inspired lively discussion at our October meeting, along with the initiation of two new members. Several members also attended a Technology Workshop at Bainbridge Island, which was instrumental in getting our chapter web-page up and running. Cultural events included a docent-led tour of the Andrew Wyeth exhibit at the SAM, and a performance of the opera, Aida. Our chapter completed two service projects: 15 backpacks filled with school supplies that we donated to Van Asselt Elementary School in Seattle, and two "Purpose-Filled Purses" for the Spring State Convention. The high point of our year was our Founders poem, The Solution for the Women Educators Revolution, composed by member Melanie Olson and performed by chapter members at the King County Breakfast and at the Spring State Convention. Our Year ended with a special luncheon to honor our Past President, Loveday Conquest, for all of her contributions as our Chapter President for 16 years!
